一天夜里，我们的牧师突然被惊醒了，大钟又在“打点”报时了!他一看表，才1点钟，可是那钟一边敲了13下才停。

（1） however的用法

however表现“然而，可是”的意思，它作为并列连词，应用起来非常灵巧，根本可用于句子中的任何地位，但要留心标点的应用。比如：

① 当应用however衔接两个句子时，前面要用分号。

I feel a bit tired; however, it’s probably the alcohol. 我认为有点累，可能是因为酒精吧。

② 当however用在句中时，通常用于主语或句首短语后，应用逗号隔开。

I have some weaknesses. That, however, doesn't mean I cannot succeed. 我有一些弱点。然而，这并不意味着我不能胜利。

③ 当however用在句尾时，前面加逗号即可。

Your work is all right; there is room for improvement, however. 工作做得还行，但仍在晋升的空间。

① 现在分词短语的时光状语从句

looking at his watch, he saw that … 从he saw that开端是主句，而前面的looking at his watch中就缺乏了主语。这种状语从句在我们以后的作文中非常的适用。老师重复强调不要写简略句，而各种从句的弥补会使句子变得长而饱满，并且写起来也很简略，同窗要多加练习。百思特网

② before关联词引诱的时光状语从句

引诱时光状语从句的关联词有很多，如果常见的after，until，when，while，once等等。在应用这些表现时光状语的连词时，通常从句不应用将来时。
